PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode unit and a secondary battery utilizing this. SOLUTION: The electrode unit is provided with a first electrode plate 24 in which a first electrode uncoated portion 23 is formed at least on one side end part of a first electrode current collector coated at least with a first electrode active material, a second electrode plate 28 in which a second electrode uncoated portion 27 is formed at least on one side end part of a second electrode current collector coated with at least a second electrode active material, and which is wound up together with the first electrode plate, and a separator 30 interposed between the first electrode plate 24 and the second electrode plate 28, and at least two folds insulating separator 33 is installed between the first electrode plain part 23 and the second electrode plain part 27. The secondary battery utilizes a lying-position electrode unit. By this, in winding up the first electrode plate 24, the second electrode plate 28 and the separator 30, insulation between the first electrode plain part 23 and the second electrode plain part 27 can be enhanced and an external impact can be buffered.
