PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing at low cost an organic electroluminescent element excellent in uniformity in the layer thickness of an organic thin layer, light emitting efficiency, light amount uniformity, and durability, while allowing a patterned organic layer to be easily formed on a substrate, and to provide the electroluminescent element. SOLUTION: While a version having at least one organic layer on a pattern and a first substrate are overlapped so that the organic layer side of the version and at least the electrode side of the first substrate having an electrode are opposed each other, at least either a heating process or a pressing process is performed. Then the version is peeled off to transfer the organic layer on the electrode side of the first substrate. Using the process or repeating the process, a single organic layer or laminated organic layers are formed on the first substrate. A second substrate is combined over the top surface of the organic layer to manufacture the organic electroluminescent element. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
