PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a disulfide that can form an optical material having high refractive index and high Abbe's number in addition to high heat resistance, weather resistance, transparency, and provide a method for efficiently producing the disulfide and a precursor thereof. SOLUTION: This invention relates to the disulfide that bears a thiiranyl disulfide structure which means that a disulfide bond directly is connected to the thiiranyl group by 1-4 units in one molecule, a precursor of the disulfide, and another disulfide that is a disulfide bearing the thiiranyl disulfide structure by 1-4 units in one molecule by allowing the precursor to react with a mono- through tetra-functional thiol.
