IMPLANTABLE POUCH SEEDED WITH INSULIN-PRODUCING CELL TO TREAT DIABETES

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an implantable pouch and a method for preparing the same, suitable for use in seeding and transplantation of cellular matters in mammals after seeding including insulin-producing cells.

SOLUTION: This implantable pouch comprises a reinforced porous foam and a lumen. The method for implanting cells or cellular matters to mammals uses the pouch. The lumen contains an insert that may or may not be removed prior to transplantation. The lumen may be loaded with at least one cell type expressing at least one transcription factor characteristic of a mammalian pancreatic beta cell.
