PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pay-per-view broadcast viewing and listening control method and its apparatus in which pay-per-view viewing and listening of a pay-per-view broadcast can be more effectively invited by giving the pay-per-view broadcast intermittently charge-free after a preview time has lapsed. SOLUTION: There is provided the viewing and listening control apparatus 10 for controlling a tuner 11, a picture output section 12, and a sound output section 13 via a microcomputer 14. When the pay-per-view broadcast is selected without inserting an effective card CD for viewing and listening, the microcomputer 14 alternates pictures overlapped with guidance announcements on the pay-per-view pictures and the pictures of the guidance announcements, resulting in displaying the pictures on a TV receiver.
