In an optically closed chamber (1), a light source (2) passes a beam (15) through the packaging (5) to a transmission detector (3). Optionally, a reflected beam is received from the packaging. The light is sent to a UV-VIS-NIR (ultraviolet, visible, near-infra red) spectrophotometer (11) and a personal computer (12) with control and evaluation software. The source and detector are in or on arms (7, 8) of the forked support (6), which is height-adjustable. Sources and detectors are in cascaded arrangement. The packaging is on the optical window (16) of the rotary unit or conveyor (17). The window is in the turntable or in the conveyor belt. An independent claim is included for the corresponding method.
