The electrooptical character generator has a heat conducting carrier for accommodating light emitting diode arrays and control circuits. The carrier has at least one groove, in which at least one cooling device is clamped by at least one deformed hollow tube so that heat from the carrier passes to the cooling device. Two adjacent cooling devices can be laid in the groove and clamped with at least one tube between them.
