A recording device includes: a recording section for recording information on a recording medium; a file system processing section for managing the aforementioned information as a file by using file system information having a directory hierarchical structure which can be referenced by a pass name; a content management information processing section for managing a directory and a file by using content management information; and an extension information processing section for managing extension information for the directory and the file. The content management information includes: medium object management information referencing the directory and the file by object reference information obtained by converting the pass name; and extension object management information for managing extension information. The directory, the file, and the extension information are correlated via the object reference information.
