<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a card reader whose power consumption can be reduced, and whose performance to erase the image from a card can be improved. <P>SOLUTION: The card reader is provided with the transport path of a card, a transport means for moving the card in the transport path, a card position detecting means for detecting the position of the card present in the transport path and an image forming/erasing means for forming a visible image in the card, and for erasing the visible image formed in the card.
