<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet discriminating device capable of constantly discriminating states of paper sheets with high accuracy by automatically adjusting and absorbing fluctuation of sensor output caused by sensitivity dispersion, instrumental dispersion, ambient temperature, or the like. <P>SOLUTION: The paper sheet discriminating device discriminates the states of paper sheets by detecting change in the electrostatic capacity when passing between oppositely arranged electrodes. An electrostatic capacity detecting circuit driving the electrodes is composed of a bridge circuit 30, a controllable variable capacitive element 34 and a controllable variable resistive element 35 are provided in the bridge circuit, a first adjusting means is provided for adjusting the controllable variable capacitative element, and a second adjusting means is provided for adjusting the controllable variable resistive element. Both or either one of the controllable variable capacitive element and the controllable variable resistive element is automatically adjusted to maintain balance of the electrostatic capacity detecting circuit. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
