PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet feeder capable of coping with wear of a feed roller and a retard roller, and feeding sheets in a constantly excellent manner irrespective of the kind/quality of the sheets. SOLUTION: In the sheet feeder, a guide member 17 is disposed between a pickup roller 12 and a feed roller 13, and the guide member is turned according to at least one of the tension of a spring member 20, the kind, the quality and the number of sheets. The angle formed by the extension of the sheets located on the highest level of a paper feed cassette 11 and a guide surface of the guide member is changed, and the guide member guides the sheets so that a tip of the sheet is abutted on the feed roller. In addition, One end of a lever member 31 is fitted to a rotary shaft bearing of the retard roller 14, and the other end thereof is turnably supported, and the lever member supports a fulcrum of the guide member between one end and the other end of the lever member.
