A printer includes: an ASF attachment/detachment sensor (18a) as a unit paper supply device detector for judging whether an ASF 60 is attached to a printer main body (1); a roll paper holder attachment/detachment sensor (38) as a continuous paper holder detector for judging whether a roll paper holder (40) is attached to the printer main body (1); and a control substrate (35) for controlling operation of the printer main body (1) according to the detection state of the ASF attachment/detachment sensor (18a) and the roll paper holder sensor (38).
