PURPOSE: An auto pilot system based on a drift angle of a ship and a method for tracking the same are provided to automatically navigate with safely tracking by implementing the rudder control based on the drift angle of the ship. CONSTITUTION: An auto pilot system based on a drift angle of a ship includes a global positioning system(GPS)(10), a Gyroscope(20), a rudder angle sensor(30), an electronic charts display and information system(ECDIS) and an auto pilot system(50). The GPS(10) receives the satellite signal. The Gyroscope(20) outputs the traveling direction information of the current ship. The rudder angle sensor(30) outputs the information related to the rudder control angle. The ECDIS displays the electronic charts. And, the auto pilot system(50) performs the rudder control for the new stem angle.
