PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for connecting optical fiber capable of connecting optical fibers with different MFD in the minimum connecting loss without causing an increase of the connecting loss and variations thereof. SOLUTION: The method for connecting optical fiber is provided with a process of fusing a first optical fiber having a first MFD and a second optical fiber having a second MFD different from the first MFD, a heat-treating process of heating the fusion part and allowing the MFDs of the first and second optical fibers on the fusion part to get closer to each other and an annealing process of annealing the fusion part after the heat-treating process.
