PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten time required for defect inspection and to suppress a decrease in the capacity of a data zone. SOLUTION: This defect processing method of a magnetic disk drive is a suitable method when the position of a defect is known in advance on a disk and comprises a stage for assigning a data zone to a track including the defect (step S1006) and a stage for processing the data zone as a defect (step S1008). The data zone is processed as a defective zone on a zone map having information including, for example, at least a recording frequency of the data zone and the number of sectors per track.
