PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact starter device having a spring mechanism including a torsion coil spring as a buffer/force storage means between a driving part having a rope reel and a driven part to which rotation of the driving part is transmitted and capable of reducing weight and costs, improving start operation property, and preventing the development of a crack and deformation in the torsion coil spring. SOLUTION: This starter device 10A is constituted in such a way that the spring mechanism 15A including the torsion coil spring 18A as the buffer/force storage means and provided on the halfway of a power transmission system between the driving part 6 for start and the driven part 7 of an engine 1 stores force while buffering with the driven part 7 by driving the driving part 6 and drives the driven part 7 by force storage. Specifications of the spring mechanism 15A are set in such a way that winding allowance for winding further is left when the spring mechanism 15A is driven by the starter device 10A and a piston 50 of the engine 1 reaches a top dead center.
