APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR REMOVING REMNANT MATERIAL FROM A BOBBIN

A bobbin stripper (10) for cutting and stripping remnant material (3) such as cable and wire from a bobbin drum (2). The bobbin stripper (10) comprises a cutting head (30) that includes a cutting blade (32) having a straight side (32a) and a tapered side (32b) having a sharp edge. The cutting blade (32) is movable in a vertical position and in a horizontal direction substantially parallel to the bobbin drum (2). Once the cutting blade (32) passes along the length of the bobbin drum (2) in one direction, the cutting blade (32) may be rotated such that the sharp edge may engage and penetrate the remnant material (3) in the reverse direction. The process may be repeated until the desired depth of the incision has been reached. A stop (44) and sensor (46) prevent the blade (32) from cutting the drum (2). The remnant material (3) may thereafter be removed by a pair of stripping plates (52,54).
