Two or more LEDs (2) are mounted in a sealed balloon (1) filled with a lighter-than-air gas, e.g. helium or balloon gas. The LEDs are connected to a cable (4) which acts as a string for the balloon. It is anchored in a transformer (3) which rests on the floor and is connected to the mains supply by a further cable and a plug.
