PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which can be made fast in auto-focus controlling. SOLUTION: The digital camera is equipped with a driving means to drive focusing optical members of an imaging optical system, an evaluation value calculating means to calculate the evaluation value indicating the focus state in a focus evaluation region, a controlling means to control the focus of the imaging optical system based on the evaluation value obtained by the scanning operation of the optical member, and a flesh-color information detecting means to detect the information about the flesh color in the focus evaluation region. In the controlling means, when specified conditions such as the presence of a flesh-color area in a plurality of focus evaluation regions are satisfied, the scanning range of the optical member is limited by the controlling means compared to a case with the above conditions not satisfied, and the scanning operation is carried out.
