PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for applying an annular film exactly to a positioned spot of a barrel part even when the barrel part outer wall surface of such as a PET bottle is coated with the annular film without heat-shrinking the film and an apparatus for the method. SOLUTION: The diameter of the annular film is made to be approximately equal to or below the outside diameter of the barrel part of a cylindrical container. One end of the annular film opened approximately annularly is held between an expansion inner claw for supporting it in the expansion direction from the inside and a contraction outer claw for supporting it from the outside with the inner claw. One end of the annular film, while being expanded annularly, is advanced from one of the cylindrical plastic containers. When it reaches at a barrel part prescribed position of the cylindrical plastic container it is stopped. After that, the inner claw and the outer claw, while one end of the annular film is released from the holding, are further advanced. The annular film is adhered to the cylindrical plastic container by its restoring contraction, and the cylindrical film is applied exactly to a prescribed position of the barrel part outside wall surface of the cylindrical plastic container.
