PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the convenience of use by changing display contents of a displaying part on the basis of the existence/absence of disk mounting. SOLUTION: The recording medium playing back device is provided with a disk drive 13 for playing back a disk 2, the displaying part 30 and a display control part 60 which determines whether the disk 2 is mounted on the disk drive 13 to make the displaying part 30 display information showing the contents of the mounted disk 2 when the disk 2 is mounted and make the displaying part 30 display information showing date and hour when the disk 2 is not mounted.
