PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for generating a tracking error signal, an optical saving drive suitable to the same, and a read-in control method using the same. SOLUTION: The tracking error signal generation apparatus 1200 generates a tracking error signal by using a laser beam reflected from a CD surface, and includes a first input terminal 1210 into which an optical detecting signal indicating the intensity of the reflected laser beam is made to flow, a first tracking error signal generator 1202 for receiving the optical detecting signal made to flow through the first input terminal and generating a first tracking error signal based on a DPD method, and an output terminal 1214 capable of outputting the first tracking error signal generated from the first tracking error signal generator.
