PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic tape excellent in reliability, which has high durability and stability when the tape runs and has little tape edge damage when the tape is repeatedly used. SOLUTION: In this magnetic tape comprising a magnetic layer provided on one surface of a non-magnetic support body and containing ferromagnetic powder and a binder resin, and a backcoat layer provided on the other surface and containing non-magnetic powder and a binder resin, the primary thickness of the backcoat layer is 0.1 to 0.6μm, the full thickness of the magnetic tape is 3 to 20μm, the non-magnetic powder includes two types of particles having different average diameters, and the average particle diameter of non-magnetic powder having the maximum mean particle diameter is 1.0 times larger than the primary thickness of the backcoat layer and is not 2.0 times larger.
