PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toroidal continuously variable transmission, wherein the traction faces of an input disc and an output disc and the traction face of a power roller have improved rolling life and the input disc, the output disc and the power roller have improved fatigue crack resisting life. SOLUTION: Carburizing treatment or carbonitriding treatment is applied to portions as the traction faces and portions subjected to repetitive bending stress, of both discs and the power roller, using a raw material having an oxygen amount of 10ppm or less. Grinding finish is applied to the portions as the traction faces thereof. The depths of effective hardening layers of the portion as the traction face and the portion subjected to the repetitive bending stress of at least one of both discs and the power roller are 2.0 mm or more and 4.0 mm or less.
