PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simplified method and machine for cutting off a plate material, by which environmental destruction due to generation of sawdust and noise in the case of cutting off the plate material by means of a circular saw is eliminated, and the sawdust is not produced, and consumed electric power becomes small. SOLUTION: The plate material is cut off as follows. A straight guide groove is formed on one surface of the plate material by means of at least one rotatable rigid circular cutter for the guide groove, while the plate material is being relatively fed toward the circular cutter for the guide groove. A circular thin cutter, which can rotate in the same plane as the rotation plane of the circular cutter for the guide groove, is inserted into the guide groove formed as described above in the downstream side of the relative feed of the circular cutter for the guide groove.
