<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical unit having remarkably high optical functions such as condensing, refraction toward the direction of a normal line or the like, whereby the optical functions are easily and surely controlled, and damaging an optical sheet is suppressed, and to provide a backlight unit of which the quality enhancement such as making luminance in the front high, uniforming luminance or the like is expedited. <P>SOLUTION: This optical unit is provided with a plurality of optical sheets to be superimposed, and a micro lens sheet 2 and a light diffusing sheet 3 are used as these optical sheets. This micro lens sheet 2 is provided with a micro lens array 5 composed of a plurality of micro lens 6 on its surface.
