PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium suitable in expanding a recording and reproduction system for music use for data recording and reproduction, and a recorder. SOLUTION: In this recording medium, a sector for recording management information for managing data recording/reproduction and a sector to be used for data recording and reproduction are prepared, and one recording and reproduction operation unit is formed by the prescribed number of sectors. With respect to a sector provided with a directory for managing data recording/reproduction as the management information, reference information corresponding to recorded data can be recorded in a sector included in the same recording and reproduction operation unit.
