PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmissive light emitting element which partially has luminous portions, has a transmissive property, emits a light only in one direction of the surfaces of the luminous portions and can be used for a front illumination etc. of a reflective liquid crystal element. SOLUTION: This transmissive light emitting element has translucent regions 9 and light-shielding regions 8 on a translucent substrate 1, the total area of the translucent regions 9 is larger than that of the light-shielding regions 8, and the luminous portions are provided at least at a part of the regions 8.
