PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water absorption material having all of excellent water absorbency, shape stability, and ventilation properties in the thickness direction. SOLUTION: This water absorption filter material is formed by adhering a holed nonwoven fabric 1 to a net 2. The mesh of the net 2 is larger than that of holes 4 in the holed nonwoven fabric 1. Also, the thickness of linear materials 3 forming the net 2 is smaller than that of the holes 4 in the holed nonwoven fabric 1. By this, the holes 4 in the holed nonwoven fabric 1 can be prevented from being clogged to secure ventilation by the holes 4. The component fibers of the holed nonwoven fabric 1 comprise hydrophillic fibers and thermal fusing fibers. The component fibers are tightly entangled with each other and bound by the thermal fusion of the thermal fusing fibers. In a method for forming the holes 4 in the holed nonwoven fabric 1 and tightly entangling the component fibers with each other, it is desirable to adopt a water stream entangling method. Also, the adhesion of the holed nonwoven fabric to the net 2 is performed by thermal fusing of the thermal fusing fibers. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
