TUBULAR MEMBER WITH FLANGE, AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bumper stay 21 having a fitting flange 22 which is not excessively projected in the vertical direction from a narrow fitting part space of a rear wall 27a of a bumper reinforcement 27. SOLUTION: The bumper stay 21 is formed of an aluminum alloy extruded material, and the fitting flange 22 to be fitted to the rear wall 27a of the bumper reinforcement 27 is formed on one end, and a fitting flange 23 to be fitted to a tip of a side member (not shown) is formed on the other end. Upper and lower portions of the fitting flange 22 are bent forward to form projecting edge portions 25 and 26 along upper and lower walls 27c and 27d of the bumper reinforcement 27. The fitting flanges 22 and 23 are formed by expanding end portions of the aluminum alloy extruded material by electromagnetic forming. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
