PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve stable image output in an early stage after startup and to substantially shorten the rise time of an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: In this image forming method, a heat developable photosensitive material is used, the material containing a photosensitive silver halide, a non-photosensitive organic silver salt, a reducing agent, a polyhalogenated compound and a binder on at least one surface of a support. For example, in this image forming method for a heat developable photosensitive material, a heat developable photosensitive material is used, the material in which the polyhalogenated compound is at least one selected from the group of the compounds represented by the formula (1a): R-Y<SB>1</SB>-(L<SB>1</SB>)<SB>n1</SB>-CX<SB>1</SB>X<SB>2</SB>X<SB>3</SB>, the formula (1b): R-Y<SB>2</SB>-L<SB>2</SB>-CX<SB>1</SB>X<SB>2</SB>X<SB>3</SB>, and the formula (1c): R-Y<SB>3</SB>-(L<SB>3</SB>)<SB>n2</SB>-CX<SB>1</SB>X<SB>2</SB>X<SB>3</SB>, and outputs an image within 15 min after startup of an image forming apparatus.
