PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system and an information providing method capable of providing local product guide information including the direction. SOLUTION: The communication system 100 is provided with an RF tag 10, a tag reader 20 and a guiding device 30. When information read out of a plurality of RF tags 10 arranged in line or in plane on a road by using the tag reader 20 is provided to a walker; the RF tags 10 respond to the information request signal from the tag reader 20, and transmit ID allocated according to a specific increase rule and local information correlated between the increase direction of the ID of dependent RF tags 10 and the direction of the local product to the tag reader 20. The tag reader 20 detects the moving direction based on the increase and decrease direction of the ID obtained from the RF tags 10 while moving, and transmits the information on the ground corresponding to the moving direction based on the detection results to the guiding device 30. The guiding device 30 provides the received guiding information to the walker after converting to voice. In this manner, information on the ground including the direction can be provided.
