<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine control system capable of accurately detecting abnormality and failure of a shifting operation switch system such as a neutral position switch. <P>SOLUTION: The number of times of gear position change CGEARPCHG is increased by one every time a gear position (a gear shift stage) of a manual gear transmission calculated with an engine speed NE, a vehicle speed V and a speed ratio (an NV ratio) is changed with driver's repeated shifting operation of a shift lever and ON and OFF operation of a clutch pedal. When the number of times of gear position change CGEARPCHG exceeds a predetermined number of times KCGEAR (e.g. 3 to 5 times) to meat failure diagnosis implementation conditions and the number of times of change in neutral position switch CNTLSWCHG is not more than the prescribed value (e.g. 0 times), it can be determined that the shifting operation switch system such as the neutral position switch is in a state of abnormality and failure or in abnormal operation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
