PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of a clearance between the sill on the car side and the sill on the hall side, when the car of an elevator lands on the landing hall and the door opens. SOLUTION: A driving controller for displacing the car in the longitudinal directions determines the longitudinal position of the car with respect to the landing hall in response to operation information supplied from an operation controller for controlling the operation of the elevator. Thus, a passenger of the elevator is required only to operate a call registration button for general purpose or a call registration button for handicapped persons disposed in the landing hall and the car, and a special operation for moving the car longitudinally is not required. The car can be moved longitudinally in cooperation with the landing control or departure control of the car, so that time taken from the landing to the departure of the car can be shortened.
