<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for controlling the distribution and use of a digital work which includes a computer program and also can be recreated by using an appropriate rendering system such as a software program. <P>SOLUTION: A repository 201 shows the general instance of the repository and has two operation modes, that is, a server mode and a requester mode. In the server mode, the repository receives and processes an access request to a digital work. In the requester mode, the repository initiates an access request to the digital work. The repository 201 being an exchanging medium for the digital work can communicate with the other repositories, that is, an authorization repository 202, a rendering repository 203 and a master repository 204.
