POLYMER MEMBRANE ELECTRODE JOINTED BODY AND POLYELECTROLYTE FUEL CELL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a conductive carbon fiber base material in which stay of water due to high humidity operation hardly occurs and which provides a gas diffusion layer capable of maintaining a high battery voltage stably, in the initial property and in the continuous operation for a long period of time.

SOLUTION: This is a polymer membrane/electrode jointed body which is composed of a polyelectrolyte membrane transporting selectively hydrogen ion, a catalyst layer arranged on the both sides of the electrolyte membrane, and a gas diffusion layer contacting each of the catalyst layer. The gas diffusion layer is provided with a base material made of a porous sheet having a carbonaceous fiber as the main component and the product of air permeability in the surface direction and the air permeability in the thickness direction of the base material is 1.0×10-8m6/m4sec2Pa2or more.
