PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stave cooler which improves the holding power for a refractory material, inhibits damage to a casting of a base metal at a high level, and thereby can be continuously used for a long period of time. SOLUTION: The stave cooler 0 comprises a plurality of refractory materials 2 which are arranged so as to be mutually separated, and have each one surface 2a of a two-dimensional form exposed, and the casting 1 of the base metal, which surrounds the whole residual surface other than one surface 2a of the plurality of the refractory materials 2 to support them, wherein the casting 1 has a locking section 4 at the end 7 of the one surface 2a side so as to prevent falling of the refractory materials due to nonuniform heat deformation during use. The locking section 4 formed on the end 7 is locked on the edge of each one surface 2a of the adjacent refractory materials 2 and 2. The stave cooler has at least one locking section.
