PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system enabling a user to easily acquire appropriate map information. SOLUTION: When searching for a route, version information of map information stored in a memory of a terminal device 300 is transmitted to a server device 400. The server device searches for a travel route based on the map information stored in a storage means. The version information in the storage means is compared with the version information in the terminal device 300. When the version information is different from each other, the map information is transmitted. By making the server device 400 previously update display data which is relatively easy to prepare, even the display data alone is transmitted together with the travel route to the terminal device 300 to display the road state matching the present state.
