PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent unnecessary suction in the sucking operation being performed actually even when a plurality of kinds of liquid stored at a liquid storing section is replaced partially. SOLUTION: The liquid ejector comprises a section 7 for storing a plurality of kinds of liquid, a valve means 20 capable of closing a plurality of liquid supply passages 16 interconnecting the liquid storing section 7 and an ejection head 12, a means 37 for classifying the plurality of liquid supply passages 16 into at least two groups and switching the open/close state of the valve means 20 manually for each group, a capping means 13 for forming an enclosed space by sealing the nozzle forming plane, a means 10 for generating a negative pressure by discharging fluid in the enclosed space, and a means 34 for controlling the operation of sucking liquid from a plurality of nozzle openings 14 by the negative pressure in the enclosed space.
