PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing oxygen-containing compounds, e.g., alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, or the like, by oxidizing an olefin bearing a carbon-carbon double bond bonding to methyl or methylene group with industrial advantage. SOLUTION: In this method for producing oxygen-containing compounds, the olefin bearing the carbon-carbon double bond bonding to the methyl or methylene group is allowed to react with an organic hydroperoxide in the presence of an ionic solution and a selenium compound.
