PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of exactly preventing the internal crack of a cast slab in the last stage of solidification while maintaining the central segregation of the cast slab at the time of speeding up at the present level accompanying the trend toward a higher casting speed Vc in continuous casting, more particularly vertical continuous casting, of steel. SOLUTION: The method of continuously casting steel in which the internal crack of the cast slab is prevented is a method for continuously casting the steel for lightly rolling down the steel in the last stage of solidification existing in an extraction section by multi-stage reduction in the same reduction schedule as the casting speed Vc of 0.40 to 0.60 m/min, which is characterised in that the total rolling reduction D of light draft at a solid phase ratio fs 0.7 to 1.0 of the cast slab is set to satisfy equation (1): D≤a x the maximum casting speed Vc + b.
