The device has at least a first side cutter (21) for a first side edge cut. This cutter is mounted on a movable first side cutter holder (31). A second side cutter (22) is mounted on a movable second holder (32) and the two holders have mechanically independent individual drives (91,92). The device has a guide through which at least one holder is guided both sides along its direction of movement. Independent claim describes method for setting up device by moving cutter holder into cutter change position above neutral position of holder, loosely hanging cutter in holder and lowering holder into neutral position and then lowering cutter onto cutting support and fixing cutter in neutral position.
