Auditing events by comparing related event digests

A means of auditing records of events by providing a chain of linked events (or a digest thereof) or records and verifying the authenticity of events by comparing e.g. hashed digest values. e.g. if two events relate to the same audit record (and each is authentic) then the two events will exist in the same digest collection, thus if a comparison of the two events' hashed digest values determines them to be equal, the events are deemed authentic. Chains of events and/or digests may be built up into an audit trail by time-stamping and appending events to preceding events and/or digests as events occur.
