PURPOSE: A steering lock for a vehicle is provided to reduce operation noise by simultaneously moving a lock bolt and a slider toward a steering column and smoothly contacting the lock bolt with the steering column when a steering wheel is locked or unlocked. CONSTITUTION: A steering lock for a vehicle is composed of an ignition knob(50), a cam shaft(52) rotated integrally with the ignition knob and disposed parallel with a steering column, a slider(54) fit into the cam shaft and sliding perpendicular to the steering column, a lock bolt(56) fixed to the end of the slider at the steering column side, an elastic member(58), and a cam member(60) installed between the slider and the cam shaft. The lock bolt is coupled to the steering column and restricts the rotation of the steering column when the slider moves toward the steering column. The elastic member is installed between the end of the slider at the cam shaft side and a vehicle body, and elastically pushes the slider to the steering column. The cam member is interlocked with the cam shaft, and slides the slider toward the steering column. The cam member includes an inclined plate cam(62) having an inclined surface, and a rotary cam(64) contacting with the inclined surface and rotated simultaneously with the cam shaft. |
