In the preparation of ceramic composites with unidirectionally oriented reinforcing fibers, fiber strands or rovings of the reinforcing fibers are enveloped (sic) by polymer fibers or separated from each other by the polymer fibers, fiber strands/rovings are processed by addition of binder resin to give unidirectional reinforced carbon fibers -shaped bodies, and the bodies are carbonized to give carbon fiber reinforced carbon bodies. In the preparation of ceramic composites with unidirectionally oriented reinforcing fibers, fiber strands or rovings of the reinforcing fibers are first enveloped (sic) by polymer fibers or are separated from each other by the polymer fibers, the treated fiber strands or rovings are processed by addition of binder resin to give unidirectional reinforced carbon fibers (CFR)-shaped bodies, and the bodies are carbonized to give carbon fiber reinforced carbon (CFRC) bodies. In the carbonization step, the polymer is completely or almost completely decomposed to give a residue of weight up to 10% of the inserted polymer, or is decomposed with formation of a carbon-containing residue comprising 10-60% of the weight of the polymers inserted in the form of fibers, whereby a pore/channel structure is formed , the volume ratio of the polymers to the fiber strands or rovings is 0.05-50 and/or the weight ratio of the polymers to the fiber strands or rovings is 0.1-25, and the CFRC body formed is finally infiltrated with liquid Si so that the liquid Si diffuses into the pores formed in the CFRC body, and at least partially combines with the carbon to form Si carbide. An Independent claim is also included for a ceramic composite containing unidirectional reinforcing fibers obtained as above. |
