Pyridinone compounds also called pyrimidinone compounds of formula (I), that are inhibitors of the enzyme Lp-PLA2 and are of use in therapy, in particular for treating atherosclerosis, processes for their preparation, intermediates useful in their preparation, pharmaceutical compositions containing them and their use in therapy, in particular in the treatment of atherosclerosis are disclosed, wherein the variables shown in the formula (I) are as described in the specification.
