The present invention relates to an antibacterial composition containing a compound of formula I wherein R is a residue of the formula II and R is located at position 2, 3, or 6, and R1 is hydrogen; or R is located at position 4, and R1 is hydrogen or methoxy; or R is located at position 5, and R1 is methoxy. The present invention also relates to the use of the composition in personal care products and methods of making personal care products employing the composition. The antibacterial composition is active against Corynebacteria, Staphylococci, and Brevibacteria. It can therefore inhibit formation of different kinds of body malodor.
