Disclosed are an isolated nucleic acid molecule encoding a bacterial autoinducer inactivation protein, the encoded protein, and anti-bacterial uses therefor. Such proteins and nucleic acids are useful for increasing disease resistance, preventing or reducing bacterial damage to a plant or animal, or treating bacterial infections in animals.
