It has been discovered that various proteins isolated from ticks are effective in the treatment of conjunctivitis. These proteins, such as histacalin proteins MS-HBP1, FS-HBP1, FS-HBP2 or D.RET6 protein, may be applied topically to an affected area and are effective to ameliorate the symptoms of this condition.
