PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a motor load, prevent application of a large load to a connecting rod, and cool the motor in compressing carbon dioxide. SOLUTION: A compression means 4 is formed of a pre-stage compressing part 11a and a post-stage compressing part 11b to compress carbon dioxide. A refrigerant introduction pipe 74 is provided to communicate a pre-stage discharge chamber 52 to which the refrigerant compressed by the pre-stage compressing part 11a is discharged with a motor chamber 18 for disposing the motor 2. The motor chamber 18 is communicated with a crank chamber 19 for storing a crank 25, and the crank chamber 19 and a post-stage intake chamber 53 are communicated with each other by a refrigerant return pipe 75. Thus, while the motor 2 is cooled, the pressure in the crank chamber 19 is made substantially equal to the pressure in the pre-stage discharge chamber 52 to reduce the load of the motor 2 and prevent application of a large load to the connecting rod 26 or the like.
